The IAB is pleased to announce that the German Academy of Ethics in Medicine (AEM), together with four partner institutions, will host the 19th World Congress of Bioethics (WCB) in 2028. It will take place in Berlin, Germany from June 14-16, 2028. The organization is led by a team formed through a collaboration among four bioethics institutes in Germany—located in Augsburg, Berlin, Göttingen, and Heidelberg—as well as the AEM’s administrative office in Göttingen. The team is composed of Susanne Michl, Silke Schicktanz, Alfred Simon, Verina Wild, and Eva Winkler.
The theme of the WCB 2028 is: “Caring for Next Generations: Bioethics in a World of Ecological, Technological & Social Transformations.” The goal is to design an interdisciplinary program that develops new ethical approaches for medical research, public health, and the healthcare system in light of global transformation processes. In particular, the program will focus on the needs of future generations and disadvantaged communities. For more information, please visit https://worldcongressbioethics2028.berlin/
A host selected to host the congress in 2028 will be announced at the 18th World Congress in South Africa. The board welcomes inquiries about hosting future World Congresses in 2028, 2030 and beyond.
